Governance

The Executive Committee manages the PCPA on behalf of its members. The Executive Committee leads the PCPA at a strategic level and monitors the effectiveness of our endeavours. It is responsible for developing the role of the PCPA within primary care and representing our members and their needs in the development and delivery of healthcare policy. It is comprised of the Chairs from the PCPA Specialist Interest Groups and representatives from sectors within primary care pharmacy. The PCPA President and the Director of the PCPA are responsible for appointing members to the specialist interest groups in collaboration with the Executive Committee and Chairs of the Specialist Interest Groups

The specialist interest groups are each chaired by a leading practitioner in the relevant field and is appointed by the executive committee. The Chair of the specialist group, the PCPA President and Director are responsible for appointing the group members who will represent UK regions, Northern, Midlands, London, South, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The PCPA is a not for profit unincorporated association https://www.gov.uk/unincorporated-associations

As with most other professional associations in this sector we are funded through membership fees and corporate sponsorships.

For information and guidance on working with the industry, visit the ABPI site for their guidance and disclosure policy http://www.abpi.org.uk/ethics/

When polled our membership voted overwhelmingly for a low membership fee and regulated industry sponsorship. Please click here for a full list of our sponsors

Please see below for our working with the industry policy as well as a list of sponsorship levels and the services provided by PCPA for sponsorship. We are grateful to our industry partners, without their support we would not be able to offer free event attendance to our members.

PCPA sponsorship packages support our symposium and conferences, through the purchase of exhibition space, delegate places and the sponsorship of satellite workshops.

There is guidance and oversight from the PCPA committee on the content of supported workshops, which are clearly advertised within the conference programmes. A full list of all exhibitors and sponsors is also clearly published on our conference programmes.

PCPA currently has 2890 members (February 2018).

The membership fee is currently £48 for Pharmacists and £39 for Pharmacy Technicians. Please click here full list of membership fees. Some members have taken advantage of promotional offers.

All revenue is spent on membership services, such as guides, our  website, resources, medicines matters, events, and PCPA office support. Please click here for a full list of membership services and benefits.

We are extremely grateful to our hard working and dedicated committee members, who give up so much of their time and energy without remuneration every day to support the PCPA, members and the pharmacy profession. Committee posts are completely voluntary.

Any payments made by PCPA to committee members are for out of pocket expenses involved in the delivery of workshops and sessions at our events. On occasion we may commission the development of original materials and resources, such as Medicines Matters and these activities are paid a minimal hourly rate. Expenses are restricted to standard travel and accommodation only.

If you would like any further clarification please call 0203 590 3943 and our office team will be happy to help.

Our policy on working with industry

PCPA actively seeks partnerships and collaborations with a variety of organisations to support our mission:

As well as partnering with other pharmacy, health professions and patient organisations, we have a longstanding history of working with and being supported by the pharmaceutical industry. This support is vital for the PCPA to function and to provide free educational events for our members.

PCPA sponsorship is actively sought to support our annual events:

There are three levels of sponsorship. These packages offer a mixture of exhibition stand space, satellite workshop sponsorships, conference bag insets and delegate places. Please click herefor a full list of our current sponsors

All revenue from events is spent on PCPA membership services. PCPA is a not for profit organisation. Please click here for PCPA governance and information on how we are funded.

We know that many of our corporate partners are open to more meaningful ways of working collaboratively. There is huge potential for the PCPA and the industry to work together to improve patient care via the development of professional practice.

We recognise the need within our membership, and within the profession, to work creatively with our corporate partners to build a mature and responsible relationship in order to foster positive attitudes towards working with industry within the association and beyond.

We believe that by committing to the following actions, the PCPA will foster transparent and mutually beneficial relationships with our sponsors to achieve our vision.
