I studied pharmacy at Portsmouth School of Pharmacy and graduated in 1983.
I began my pharmacy career with Underwoods in Central London and opened my own pharmacy, Copes Pharmacy, in Streatham High Road in 1986. In early 2004, I was one of the first pharmacists to qualify as a supplementary prescriber from KingsCollege, London. I qualified as an independent prescriber in June 2007.
I joined Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham LPC in 1988 and became Vice Chair in 1990.
I became the pharmacist PEC member for Lambeth PCT in 2002 and a PEC representative on Lambeth PCT Board and Chair of the Medicines Management Working Group for the PCT in 2003. In 2007 I became Vice Chair of the PEC and then PEC Chair in 2009. I changed role to become Clinical Network Lead for NHS Lambeth in April 2011. I joined the NPA Board in 1998 and was Vice-Chair in 2003 before becoming Chairman of the NPA Board of Management in April 2004. I became Chair of CDA in 2006 and retained the role when it changed to NPAI in 2007. I joined PSNC in 2005 and was Chair of the Service Development Subcommittee.
I was appointed as a member of the NHS Future Forum to review the Health & Social Care Bill and the appropriateness of elements of that Bill. I was a member of the Clinical Advice and Leadership workstream.
In the second phase of the Future Forum I jointly led the workstream on ‘The NHS’s Role in the Public’s Health’.
I have been part of an Expert Advisory Board reviewing the NHS constitution.
I am a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and Honorary Fellow of The UCL School of Pharmacy
I was a Board member of Health Education South London from 2013-2015
I was appointed as a member of the NAPC Council in October 2013 and became a member of the Executive Committee in 2015
I was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list 2014
I am a member of the English Pharmacy Board at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society having been initially elected in 2012 and I was President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society from 2014-2016
I was appointed as a visiting professor at Huddersfield University in July 2016
I have received Honorary Doctorates in Science from Portsmouth University and Kingston University in July 2016 and an Honorary Doctorate in Health from Bradford University in December 2016
Chief Officer, Leicestershire and Rutland Local Pharmaceutical Committee
Luvjit currently works as the Chief Officer of Leicestershire and Rutland Local Pharmaceutical Committee. Her role involves advancing community pharmacy in the local NHS whilst representing Community Pharmacists interests.
Luvjit has extensive experience working as a Community Pharmacist also having worked in hospital pharmacy and industry both in the UK and abroad. Previous roles include Head of Pharmacy Services and Management of the Pre-registration Programme and also Chairing Warwickshire Local Pharmaceutical Committee.
